Why Acceptance is So Important

I took a week off of blogging just to recuperate after losing my cat. Sometimes it’s important to sit back, reflect and give yourself time to process your feelings.Later in the week I got a call that my Grandma who lives in North Carolina was in the hospital with some medical issues so it really was a whirlwind of a week. But grandma is doing okay and it’s time to get back to blogging!

All of these issues in my life got me thinking a lot about acceptance. I think when you’re going through something difficult like a breakup, a death or a disappointment, you get so caught up in not understanding why things have to be this way. Why do people and pets have to die? Why do bad things happen to good people? Why do some great couples break up? A lot of the questions we have, we’ll never have answers to.

Life is a series of ups and downs and it will always be this way. Something I’ve learned and something I feel compelled to share with others is learning about ACCEPTANCE. Dwelling on a situation will continue to make you feel worse and worse. The human mind tends to have a hard time accepting things and you might keep replaying things over and over in your head. But you have to find it in you to accept the things you can’t change.

We’re so fortunate that as humans we have a lot of choices in life. But there are certain things in life that I truly believe and know we do not have a choice in. And these are the things we have to accept. We have to wake up every day knowing that we will get through what we’re going through and that everything WILL be okay.

Acceptance isn’t something that is easy but it’s something that’s really important for your mental health. Dwelling is damaging. For me what helps is simply making an effort every day to tell yourself that this is how life is. Life is hard. Life is amazing. We’re here and we have to make the most of it.

I hope your Monday goes amazing and I hope you’ll leave this post a like or a comment letting me know your thoughts on this topic. Don’t forget to follow this blog for more posts like this one and check out my social media pages which are linked on my sidebar 🙂

Saying Goodbye

Yesterday I woke up to another rainy Fall day. It was one of those days where you just don’t feel like doing anything and you want to lounge in your PJs all day. I ended up staying in my night shirt all day under a blanket drinking hot chocolate.

I adore lazy Sundays

Sometimes life works out in the strangest of ways. I was home and so was my mom, who was supposed to be out running errands but decided to come back home to throw some vegetarian chili in the crock pot before heading out again. My younger sister was at work and my nephew wasn’t over like he usually is on Sundays. Suddenly, my cat Peaches who is 15 and very frail, collapsed to the floor. We wrapped him in a blanket and made him comfortable because we knew it was his time to go. He has been deteriorating for awhile and we knew this day was coming. Within two hours he had passed on and I was left with the vague, empty feeling that comes with losing a pet.

Although he wasn’t human he was definitely family and although I’m so saddened by this tragic event I feel lucky to have been there when he passed. The house was quiet and my mom and I made his experience the best we could. He lived a very happy 15 years and he’s in a better place now with no pain or suffering but it’s still so upsetting. I can’t believe he won’t be sleeping under the Christmas tree this year or trying to steal our food every night at dinner. He was such a good cat and for that I had to dedicate this blog post to him. Goodbye my sweet Peach. You were so loved.

If you have any tips for coping with pet loss please let me know. I hope you all have an amazing Monday and I hope you all hug your pets extra tight tonight.

Casual Friday

Hey guys!

Today I wasn’t really in the mood to do any kind of deep, inspirational post. I thought I would keep things light and airy since it’s Friday and give you guys some random facts about me so you guys can get to know the girl behind this blog a bit better. Hope you all enjoy!

1.) I absolutely love Christmas. It is hands down the best time of the year and I have always been obsessed. I actually was Christmas two years ago for Halloween.

2.) I broke my left arm when I was 5 because I fell off the monkey bars. I ended up in a bright purple cast and my arm still isn’t completely straight.

3.) Mozzarella sticks are my favorite meal and I could eat them everyday as sad as that is.

4.) Besides mozz sticks I also really, really love dessert and breakfast food. I can eat cupcakes for breakfast (and I have on many occasions). And I would eat french toast over dinner food any day.

5.) I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie and I love doing exhilarating things. I’ve done a hot air balloon ride, I’ve cliff jumped, zip-lined in Mexico, swam in an underground river through caves and the list goes on. I also love roller coasters.

6.) I’m extremely empathetic the majority of the time toward other people and sometimes I literally feel like I can feel other people’s pain.

7.) I have an amazing natural sense of direction and I regularly test myself by not using my GPS when I get lost. I call it “my game” and let’s just say other people hate when I play it when they’re in the car  😉 It actually runs in my family and my dad is the same way.

8.) I come from a mostly female family. I have three sisters and almost no male cousins besides a few on my dad’s side. When my nephew was born we were all shocked because we were convinced we couldn’t make boys.

two of my sisters my nephew and me on the right

9.) I hate scary movies and I won’t watch them. I end up laying awake with my over-active imagination and freaking out for nights on end if I watch them. Sometimes even scary commercials are too much for me. I’m surprised I’ve gotten through seasons of American Horror Story and even that show I can’t watch alone.

10.) I have olive skin that tans extremely easily and I rarely get burnt. I get so many different assumptions about what I am like Portuguese, Syrian, Hispanic, etc but it’s actually just really strong southern Italian genes passed down from my grandfather. The rest of my bloodline is just Irish, French and Scottish.

I hope you guys enjoyed this fun post and got to know a little bit more about me. Leave me a comment below and let me know something about you! I would love to hear it. Have an amazing Friday!

This Week’s Inspiration

It’s Sunday again, the weeks seem to be flying by and I’m so happy it’s October. It used to be my least favorite month as a kid because fun fact: I hated Halloween growing up. I was always kind of a scaredy cat and I always felt so creeped out the month leading up to Halloween. But now as an adult I’m in love with this time of year. I thought for the first Sunday of this month I would share some of the things I’m loving right now and some things that are getting me inspired. Let me know whats inspiring you right now! I would love to get some new ideas and inspiration.

1.) Lauren Conrad: She’s just GOALS. I’ve been going on her website which I have linked for inspiration for my own blog and everything is just so pretty. She’s classy, she’s a boss lady and I just really like her which is weird because I was never really into her when she was on the The Hills. I really admire her and everything she’s accomplished and I feel like she’s a good role model.

2.) Fall Playlist: These are my current favorite songs right now and I’ve been playing them non-stop.

  • Band of Horses- No One’s Gonna Love you
  • James Hersey- Coming Over (filous remix)
  • Fitz and the Tantrums- Out of my League
  • Milky Chance- Stolen Dance
  • Rufus- Two Clocks
  • Pat Lok- All in my Head ft. Desiree Dawson (goldfields remix)
love this flowery head

3.) Mimi Ikonn’s interview with London Real: I just love this woman! UGHHH. She’s so frickin inspiring and down to Earth. She brings real value into my life and I know she brings value to others which is something I hope to do with this blog. The video talks about her childhood, her rise to success with LuxyHair and her mindset which has helped her become a millionaire. What an inspiration.

4.) The state of your bed is the state of your head: I heard this expression on Jessica Garvin’s blog and now every morning before work I can’t help but think of it if I try to leave without making my bed. I feel like it somehow affects your sub-conscious or something. Let me know if you feel the same 😉

5.) The leaves changing: I feel like nature can teach us things if we take the time to look around. The leaves around here in New Jersey seem to be taking forever to change color and it’s teaching me A LOT about patience. I’m realizing this season that everything in nature takes times and it’s making me feel better about some of my aspirations. Things don’t happen all at once and amazing things take time.

6.) Home Office: One of my dreams in life is to work from home at least part of the time and have an amazing home office so I’ve been pinning away getting some inspiration for it. I believe that if you want something you should act as if it’s already happening and you’re already getting it sooo I decided why not make a Pinterest board to really visualize it? I’ll link it in case you guys want to check it out. These are some I love:

love the wood & the purple

Well guys that’s all I have for today. I hope you all enjoyed this post and have an amazing week as usual. I have now linked my social media pages in the sidebar so be sure to follow me if you’re interested in learning a bit more about me and my personal life. Happy October!
